Community

We want to foster a strong sense of "Community" and care within our school.  Older children are encouraged to look after and be responsible for younger ones.  We try to encourage active involvement by our children in our school community and the broader community beyond the school gate.  Years 5 and 6 take on a lot of roles in the school as monitors, they help run the library, look after the school grounds and run the playground toys system.

Meeting and Mixing

We participate regularly in a variety of events, both academic and social, which involve our local Primary and Secondary schools.  We are also involved in regular sports events, both competitive and friendly with many schools in the area.

The Village

We are aware that we are a village school and that many people share "ownership" of our school in terms of affectionate memories.  

We support local events and give our children a sense of the school as part of the history of the village.  The older children look at this in more detail in their local study.  The school contributes regularly to the Parish magazine "Link Up", and we are represented on the Memorial Hall Committee.  

Our local church is St. Mary’s Church, Cheddon Fitzpaine; we go there for services three times a year and the rector visits the school to lead some of our acts of worship.  

The children are encouraged to be interested in what is happening in the world, and our Acts of Worship can provide a good starting point for discussion and raising awareness.  

The Outside World

In a broader context we support a school charity each year and all monies collected from services, school plays etc., go toward the fund.

We also like to share our facilities with the community and currently have an enthusiastic group of people using the computer suite on Tuesday mornings.  If you would like to become one of their number then do please ring the office.  You would be made very welcome no matter what your standard of computer skill.
